Description

A good early 18th-century English delft jar of double ogee form, fitted with distinctive rope twist handles, and decorated in rich cobalt blue with flowering shrubs, attributed to Bristol and dating to circa 1730.
The jar has a pleasing compact profile with bold painted floral sprays, scattered foliage and a strong linear banding to the foot, all typical features of English Bristol delftware of the period.
The rope twist handles are particularly appealing, giving the piece sculptural character and making it an attractive and uncommon survival among early Georgian tin-glazed wares.
