Description
Bristol powdered manganese plate decorated with a finely painted Chinese landscape scene to the centre, framed by a rich powdered manganese ground.
The central vignette depicts a seated figure within a stylised oriental landscape of water, fencing and distant buildings, painted in cobalt blue in the chinoiserie manner popular in mid-18th-century Bristol delftware.
The border is divided into five small reserve panels, each painted with delicate floral sprigs against the deep speckled manganese ground — a decorative technique strongly associated with Bristol production around 1750.
The reverse bears the number “8”, typical of workshop or kiln numbering of the period.
