Description
A fine 18th-century English Delft tile, painted in blue on a pale tin-glazed ground with two recumbent sheep in a pastoral landscape, inspired by a 17th-century etching by the Dutch artist Nicolaes Berchem.
Executed in the Liverpool delft tradition, this tile shows the delicate linework and soft shading associated with the best painters of the mid-18th century.
The subject was a favourite among delft decorators, reflecting the enduring influence of Dutch pastoral art on English ceramics.

Excellent condition, with clear glaze and well-preserved cobalt decoration. Minor expected age wear only; no restoration detected.
